Fused Glass Tile Workshop

  • UCSD Craft Center 9655 Scholars Drive North La Jolla, CA, 92093 United States (map)

Learn the basics of Kiln-Formed (Fused) Glass and create your own glass tile at UCSD’s new state of the art Craft Center!! This fun “mini” workshop gives you a light introduction to fused glass. You will learn how it differs from other forms of art glass, what tools are used in creating a basic piece, and how to cut the glass “canvas” that you will be using in your project. You will then create an abstract or representational design of your choice using a colorful array of provided glass pieces and embellishments that you will adhere onto your glass “canvas”. Your piece will be fired in a glass kiln to completely fuse your design into one solid tile, and will be ready for you to hang or display the following week!

Materials included in enrollment fees: colored glass, firing/fusing costs, the use of the tools and machinery. Participants are encouraged to bring sketching materials.

Fee: $70 general public - A Craft Center account must be set up (it’s easy and can be done through the UCSD Account link below or by calling 858-246-4536) Reduced fees for UCSD students and faculty.
